Research: Magazine Advert
RECENT ALBUMS:
RETAILERS & ONLINE:
RETAILERS:
I was able to find some magazines related to music in WHsmith. They sold a wide range of magazines with different genres such as pop, rock, classical and country music. All the magazines I saw looked very similar to each other. They had all the things of what a magazine advert would have such as the main title with their unique fonts, a large image which takes up the whole space of the advert and small information about the magazine
ONLINE:
There are some websites also sell magazines online. for example, a website called "greatmagazines.co.uk" sells a range of different magazines. Below are some examples of what magazines they sell.
GENRES & TARGET AUDIENCE:
Since there are many different genres of music, I personally think that the genres would target audiences in different ways. This is because, it would enable to attract people who favour that specific genre. This could be shown by the kind of image that is used, the colour of the magazine advert and the kind of font being used as well. The reason for this is because I think that the audience would like to see things associated with that genre.
METAL:
For example, in the metal genre, usually a metal advert would contain a horrific image in the centre like the one below. an audience who favour the metal genre could perhaps like the freaky image being used as they can immediately associated the advert to the metal genre. Additionally, there is also the filter. a metal advert can contain colour, be in black and white or have a mixture of both. However, the colours that would be used would be very dark since metal music can connote darkness and so, the audience can link it to the metal genre. additionally, the sharp look in the font of the title can attract a metal audience since the sharpness connotes danger and danger can be associated with metal.
POP:
Since the pop genre is all about an upbeat and happy tune, I think that an audience would want to see something bright and colourful in a pop genre magazine advert since bright colours and happiness can be associated to pop so I think that the genre does use bright colours to attract the audience who favour the pop genre. For example, the advert below shows that it is filled with bright colours, the font, background and Olly Murs himself. the brightness helps everything be seen clear and it makes the album look more happy and positive.
REGGAE:
An audience interested in the reggae genre would I think look for an advert that has a vintage look. This is because it looks more old fashioned and it's quiet a calm music genre so an audience would like to see a calm but vintage design. for example the reggae advert below shows that it has a saturated and warm filter a because of it's simple but vintage look, it can be associated with the reggae genre so the genre can use this technique to attract an audience who are interested in reggae.
