I think this was one of my best research that I independently did. For this research, I explored what a Thriller film is and what kinds of Thrillers there are. Also, I researched the kind of conventions in a thriller. This was really helpful for making the thriller opening because it gave us more ideas on what kind of thriller opening to make and what we must include in the opening to make it convincing to the audience.
This was also another useful research that I did. For this research, I explored a typical film goer finding out what they like, what their hobbies were and their opinion of thriller films. This was important for out thriller opening because it would help us decide what our target audience would be.
Planning:
A part my group and I did was the making of a storyboard of our thriller opening. This helped us to visually see what our thriller opening was going to look like and we noted down anything to help us remember what we need to add on those specific scenes such as certain camera shots, type of lighting and adding credits if necessary and we shared it to our target audience in the form of an animatic and received positive feedback with a few improvements which we then followed.
My other useful planning post was the shot list. This was crucial for our thriller opening since it layed out a plan on what kind of camera shots and angles to use for each scene. This would help not cause any confusion and disagreement on what camera shots and angles to use.
Another useful piece of planning was the ideas for the location of our thriller openings. This was helpful as it gave us the setting of where our thriller opening was going to be and also, it helped us all in deciding where in England we were going to go to start filming.

Detailed Genre Research: K-Pop Genre:
K-Pop is a music genre originating in South Korea
that is characterised by a wide variety of audio-visual elements. Although it
includes all genres of "popular music" within South Korea, the term
is often used in a narrower sense to describe a modern form of South Korean pop
music drawing inspiration on a range of styles and genres incorporated from the
rest of the world such as Western pop music, rock, experimental, jazz, gospel,
Latin, hip hop, R&B, reggae, electronic dance, folk, country and classical
on top of its uniquely traditional Korean music roots.

Target Audience:
On an app (that I personally have) I created two polls (out of boredom) in order to know more about the K-pop fans. I created one asking about their gender and what age they are. (These people are fans of K-Pop)
For this first poll, I asked if they are male or female. The final results show that the majority of the fans are female. This could suggest that the K-Pop genre is usually targeted towards females since females are usually the easiest to be captivated by a groups appearance and voice but it's not entirely true since this poll only received 67 votes, there could be a change in the results if more people were to vote and also, from personal experience, I seen others who are boys who are fans of K-Pop and they're my friends and they say they think the target audience for the K-Pop genre is a mixture of boys and girls.
For this next poll, I asked what their age was and the final results show that the majority is people within the age range of 16 - 20 yrs old. This suggests that the target audience are mostly teenagers and young adults since the ages of the members of a K-Pop group are roughly the same age (mostly from 18 to 24 years old) so I think it's normal for teens to watch others who are the same age or slightly older.
Judging from these two polls, I can suggest that the target audience is mostly female teenagers and young adults but I personally think that the target gender is a mixture of females and males since there are different groups and depending on how their style is (since there are different styles of groups) it could be targeted to either males, females or even both. Additionally, it could also be targeted to those who generally like the Korean music.
Marketing:
Many agencies have presented new idol groups to an
audience through a "debut showcase", which consists of online
marketing and television broadcast promotions as opposed to radio. Groups are
given a name and a "concept", along with a marketing hook. Sometimes
sub-units or sub-groups are formed among existing members. Additionally, online
marketing includes music videos posted to YouTube in order to reach a worldwide
audience. Prior to the actual video, the group releases teaser photos and
trailers. Promotional cycles of subsequent singles are called comebacks even
when the musician or group in question did not go on hiatus.
I was able to find some magazines related to music in WHsmith. They sold a wide range of magazines with different genres such as pop, rock, classical and country music. All the magazines I saw looked very similar to each other. They had all the things of what a magazine advert would have such as the main title with their unique fonts, a large image which takes up the whole space of the advert and small information about the magazine
ONLINE:
There are some websites also sell magazines online. for example, a website called "greatmagazines.co.uk" sells a range of different magazines. Below are some examples of what magazines they sell.
GENRES & TARGET AUDIENCE:
Since there are many different genres of music, I personally think that the genres would target audiences in different ways. This is because, it would enable to attract people who favour that specific genre. This could be shown by the kind of image that is used, the colour of the magazine advert and the kind of font being used as well. The reason for this is because I think that the audience would like to see things associated with that genre.
METAL:
For example, in the metal genre, usually a metal advert would contain a horrific image in the centre like the one below. an audience who favour the metal genre could perhaps like the freaky image being used as they can immediately associated the advert to the metal genre. Additionally, there is also the filter. a metal advert can contain colour, be in black and white or have a mixture of both. However, the colours that would be used would be very dark since metal music can connote darkness and so, the audience can link it to the metal genre. additionally, the sharp look in the font of the title can attract a metal audience since the sharpness connotes danger and danger can be associated with metal.
POP:
Since the pop genre is all about an upbeat and happy tune, I think that an audience would want to see something bright and colourful in a pop genre magazine advert since bright colours and happiness can be associated to pop so I think that the genre does use bright colours to attract the audience who favour the pop genre. For example, the advert below shows that it is filled with bright colours, the font, background and Olly Murs himself. the brightness helps everything be seen clear and it makes the album look more happy and positive.
REGGAE:
An audience interested in the reggae genre would I think look for an advert that has a vintage look. This is because it looks more old fashioned and it's quiet a calm music genre so an audience would like to see a calm but vintage design. for example the reggae advert below shows that it has a saturated and warm filter a because of it's simple but vintage look, it can be associated with the reggae genre so the genre can use this technique to attract an audience who are interested in reggae.

Digipaks in retailers and online:
I found out that there was a very low number of retail shops that still sell digipaks. One shop that still sell digipaks is Poundland in Hounslow high street. Due to their slogan, digipaks have a very cheap price so buying one would be very easy to get. additionally, every digipak was pre-owned meaning that someone had already used it and they have sold it to this specific shop. overall, this shows that digipaks isn't very popular in this generation since most/all digipaks have already been used and the retail shops are selling them for a cheap price.
Digipaks are also sold online on retail websites. I discovered that you can buy digipaks mostly from the website eBay. They are also selling digipaks for a very cheap price and also, nearly all digipaks have been used and this links it to the fact that digipaks aren't as popular as they used to be. Digipak nets:
There are digipak nets that exist to help the people who make the digipak know what the whole digipak will look like. There are different types of digipak nets, mostly a net with 4 or 6 panels.
